Baggage

Transforming Life

born
            grown
                       torn
                                  turn
stomach churn
                       body and baggage
                                             in a neat package
                                  boxed
                       entrapped
swapping one for another pact
                                  dreams
                                             cracked
                                                        containers
                                                                   drilled and fracked
                                                        hacked
                                             freedoms
            care for a threesome?
here she comes!
            twisting tongues
                        dwelling in duality
                                                warping reality
                                                                        kneeling under a pomegranate tree

منّت خدای را عز و جل که طاعتش موجب قربتست و به شکر اندرش مزید نعمت هر نفسی که فرو می رود ممدّ حیاتست و چون بر می آید مفرّح ذات پس در هر نفسی دو نعمت موجودست و بر هر نعمت شکری واجب

In “Baggage,” I struggle with my baggage, all that I carry with me from home. Every day I carry my memories of Iran with me–with all the emotions and thoughts that brings. This performance shows the complexity inherent in both leaving and staying.
