Another Ode to Hate-riotism
1

You are asking me to continue to love even after. Aren’t you? All walls around carry blood stains. I cannot walk on the streets with my head upright. You undress even a kid to check whether he got circumcised. Always your stress is on my last name than on my first name. I am nowhere. Nobody wants to know who I am. Where is the need of legislations, why should there be written orders, when my entire body itself is treated as a proscribed document-

2

I observe fasts. I listen to speeches. I procreate with a haunting fright. Even when I want to utter a good word, I hesitate with trepidation, apprehending how it may sound to you. Even then, you ask me to sing eulogies on the overflow of freedom. You continue to bowl your accusing fingers at me and advise me to continue to love the country. I also wish to be in the fore front in the parade even though my feet are getting hacked. But then, please let me know where do you place me in the parade this time. I don’t know how many new labels will be stamped on my face and how many hate songs shower on me. Even then, not only this day, but every day I go on singing Vande Mataram that you never cared for and take the Pledge that you never kept!

3

My pride has no bounds. Though I grow my beard and wear my sherwani, I try to convince you that I love only khaddar. Even though I visualize green dreams, I boastingly yell that tricolor is my moonlight. I continue to sing Sare Jahan Se Acchaa Mera Hindustan even in my babbling. I over take you two steps ahead in the run at the risk of my life to catch and carry the flag.

4

Even then
You measure my patriotism with your hate
You continue to detest
You order me to love
And imprison the wind around me
Even then
I continue to love
As your hands turn into swords
And shred me to pieces…
